My research programme takes a life course approach to social and mental wellbeing in later life. This aims to identify lifetime experiences that contribute to an older person’s wellbeing, and to understand how wellbeing relates to physical and mental ageing. Recent projects I’ve been supervising include investigation of marriage and physical capability; social support and obesity; parent-child relationships and mental wellbeing; and neighbourhood social capital and various health outcomes.

Academic interest keywords: Social capital, social connectedness, life course epidemiology
